There a few companies in Napa that have begun walking tours of the downtown area.
It certainly is a great way to here about the history of Napa, especially the town of Napa as opposed to the history of the wineries, which you can get from visiting wineries up valley.

If you’ve been to COPIA (www.copia.org), and you were not impressed at their wine museum, you need to go to the “Real” Napa Valley Museum located in Yountville at the Veterans Home. Head west on California Drive and it is on the right at the top.
There are two permanent exhibits:

Hours: Wednesday through Monday 10am-5pm

If you don’t have gear, pick it up at Napa Valley Bike Tours (6488 Washington St.) They have all types of bikes and any other gear you’ll neeed. Plus if you rent from them and you end up to far from base camp to return, they’ll pick you up for a small fee.
They also offer different guided tours. A favorite is the Wine and Dine Tour ($125) which includes four winery stops in about four miles. The “dining” is a gourmet lunch.
